turzi: buenos aires

the most interesting thing i learned this week is that the french translation of krautrock (rock choucroute) is something along the lines of rock and roll sauerkraut. i’m hoping this is true. if not i’ll lessen the disappointment with guinness and the new e.p. from turzi. it’s the usual composer oomph followed by listener oof. a thoroughly gallic take on the germanic. motorik beats ahoy. cowbells over can chug. treated guitars over silver apples oscillations. i dare anyone with a sense of rhythm or melody not to dance like a motherfucker to any of this. yeah so four tracks on sweet vinyl from record makers. two proper tracks, two remixes. buenos aires is all synth pomp and goblin stomp. gets a slo-mo remix courtesy of monsieur turzi and sebastien tellier. bombay (which is what turned me onto these suave fucks) is all proto-metal and exotic twang, like some third world link wray. the remix by koudlam starts with (i think) some kindof treated guitar noise that resembles ron ashetons at the start of i wanna be your dog. it morphs into some equally fuzzed up droney slo-mo take on the original with ian curtis vox. i’m thinking again of goblin (on the dawn of the dead soundtrack). so in conclusion it’s a short sharp blast of tangerine dream score meets psyched up geetar meets electro suicide prog-rock meanderings. hell that should be enough to ensnare yr weak little minds. no? you want more lazy comparisons? if y’dig the score from the keep, if y’dig zombie-zombie’s vintage synth stabbings if y’dig the idea of combining kraftwerk with roky erickson then turzi will mentally stroke you to sartorial climax. hellfire am i loving this.  even though when i was pimping goblin and john carpenter soundtracks for years and nobody paid the slightest goddam interest…
