this life can be very strange / all those dayglow freaks who used to paint the face / they’ve joined the human race / some things will never change
oof. this is gonna be a source of consternation among some of the regulars. it’s the dan! kindofa obsessive compulsive pall hanging over this bugger, from source to execution. a years work; eighty-odd steely dan songs shorn and sculpted into one twelve track chunk of gleeful glowing 4/4ish house stomp and pulse. s’all been glued together by one fella (gabe shultz) though i do like the idea of this being some fagan / becker prank. not so much a mashup or remix as a recontextualising i s’pose. don’t get me wrong he’s not making any grand dada / duchampesque statements here beyond churning a mosaic of eight hundred sound clips to creamy tekfunk (or tekfusion i s’pose…) goodness. interesting how well steely dan’s slinky sleek studio work translates into daft punkish cut-up repeato beats. read into that what you will. cex thrashed a similar equine few years back with their dannibal record. but this is much more girl-friendly and, context aside, a bit of a bouncy summery joy to listen to (and fanatically pick out the teasing strands of the originals). bit like a jigsaw puzzle for yr ears that somebody’s already put together.
think this was mentioned yonks ago by my man kek-w.
